Devon Air Ambulance Family Day

13th September 2017 by ripplerob

We had a great time at the DAA 25th Anniversary Family Day at Darts Farm, providing support to the main stage for the live music and providing the outdoor screen for events. We enjoyed working with BitPod on the live streaming to the outdoor screen in the demo areas. We put up a big screen and speakers so that the emergency services could re-enact some scenarios – an excellent way of demonstrating just how much work goes into an incident like a car accident.

The team set up a simulated car accident to show how the emergency services would tackle an incident like this and how the services work toegther. The screen meant that the incident could be watched from across the field and BitPod were live streaming online, realy extending the reach of the family day to those watching at home.

In spite of unsettled weather, a lot of people turned out to support the Devon Air Ambulance and take a look inside one of the helicopters.

Projector installation for a primary school

6th September 2017 by ripplerob

Installing a projector system into Denbury Primary School

Denbury Primary School is a small, village school 3 miles from the market town of Newton Abbot, with an busy programme of activities and clubs for the children. As part of the Parent Teacher Association’s commitment to enriching the learning and cultural facilities at the school, the PTA made it their goal in 2017 to equip the main school hall with a projector, screen and speakers.

Due to our experience providing audio visual solutions within schools, Ripple Events were asked to put together a specification for the system to provide a simple-to-use, yet tamper proof, system. We were delighted to work with the school and were able to offer our professional expertise and time free of charge as a part of our commitment to local community projects. We were also able to supply the equipment needed at cost, which significantly increased the spending power of a small school with only 114 pupils and limited resources.

One of the key factors to consider was striking the balance between cost and performance. It can be too tempting to over specify a project when it’s not always necessary. There are many cutting edge, touch screen options for system automation which we did consider. However, that would have reduced the budget available for the projector and made the system expensive to edit for future development.

For these reasons, a clearly marked push button solution was used allowing the system to be switched on, turned off and the volume to be adjusted.  The source bottom was also used to ensure the HDMI input could be selected if it was not recognised automatically.

The single HDMI input makes a simple connection for high quality pictures without fragile pins that can get bent and damaged.  In this instance, we are also using the audio connections. As well as mounting the controls high up to be out of reach of smaller hands, the system automatically locks out and cannot be turned on without a security code entered into the control panel. The panel will stay live while in use and when you power down, it locks.

Being a traditional village school hall with lath and plaster walls and ceiling, running the cables within the walls was going to risk making more of a mess than it would give an advantage. For this reason, cables were run with round conduit which was shaped and adapted to the walls without any breaks.

Powered speakers were mounted either side of the screen with a single audio feed from the projector. This allowed us to set a maximum volume to a position that will ensure the longevity of the speakers and be confident that this level will not be exceeded.

The end result of this installation is a smart, easy to use system that will give the school years of use and allow the hall to be used in the diverse way it needs to provide.

Additional Work within the School

Over the summer we also carried out a complete service of the audio visuals within the classrooms.  This involved a half day survey to check lamp and filter hours, check all video and audio connections, check cabling and smart board operations.  From this survey we made recommendations and gave a clear quotation for the required servicing, replacement lamps and advisory upgraded to HDMI inputs.

The work corrected long standing faults with interactive Smart boards that were not responding and increased accuracy for all interactive boards.

Surround Sound Cinema South West

23rd August 2017 by ripplerob

Commercial Surround Sound Cinema South West

As a supplier of outdoor cinema events, we were approached early in July to supply a Surround Sound Cinema for a short film premier to be held on Dartmoor. The London based production client required a 5.1 surround system for an estimated audience of 300 that needed to be set up and taken down quickly within a town hall giving the invited guests a full cinema experience.

The setup provided gave them a simple 5000w system which was easy to set up and operate,  including:

  • 2 x 12” full range speakers for the centre
  • 2 x 12” full range speakers for the front left and right
  • 2 x 18” Bass bins for the Sub
  • 2 x 8” speakers for rear left and right
  • Fully programmed digital sound deck
  • 3 x stereo amplifiers with built in limiters
  • 1 x Blue-ray player with individual audio outputs
  • 1 x Microphone
  • 1 x main distribution board
  • All required cables.

Pre-event training included: As part of the hire, we set the system up in our warehouse and gave them full instruction on set up and operation including instructions on how to fully set the surround configuration.

Thoughtful additions: As an addition to the system itself we took the time to include a microphone, routed to only the front speakers, giving the producer the opportunity to introduce the film.

Digital mixer control panel: This picture shows the control panel of the digital mixer.  The top row of controls allows the customers individual control over the 5 individual parts of the system. Centre, front left, front right, Sub and rear.

The second row gives them a master volume, mic volume and mute.

Customer review

“Ripple Events were not only helpful and knowledgeable, but went above and beyond to offer us AV support before and during the event. The overall service was fantastic, the equipment was in great working condition and well maintained, and Rob even suggested ways to improve the overall delivery of the show using the equipment. I could not recommend Ripple Events highly enough for their expertise and level of service. If you decide to use Ripple Events in future, you will not be disappointed.”

 System Availability

This system is available for hire throughout the South West as a 5.1 5000w system or as a 7.1 6000w option.  We are able to offer a dry hire service to our trade account holders or a delivered and setup option to all clients.

In addition to the sound we can also offer screen and projector hire to complete the HD cinema experience.
