Lost Weekend; live streaming

The brief:

Lost Weekend was a three day festival of ideas, art, film, music, theatre and technical innovation held in Exeter. A variety of sponsors, hosts and venues came together to provide an imaginative range of events designed to inspire a wide audience. The organisers approached us about live streaming to a screen on Cathedral Green for passers-by and spectators.

What we did:

Set up a 5m LED screen on Cathedral Green in Exeter on which we streamed the TED X Salon talks in the morning and other Lost Weekend events in the afternoon including a 30 player Pac-Man game.

Feedback:

Commando Challenge 2017 – filming the event

20th October 2017 by ripplerob

We were delighted to be working on the Commando Challenge 2017 on Woodbury Common with an amazing team of volunteers. The participants undergo the same gruelling challenges that the Royal Marines do as part of basic training, raising money for the Royal Marine Charity and for Devon Air Ambulance. To allow more people to watch the participants going round the course, we set up a large LED screen back at the Challenge Village.

A team of volunteers filmed people at different parts of the course and raced back with the videos. We edited them as fast as possible to put them up on the screen for supporters and helpers to enjoy. It was a brilliant team effort and a very effective way of sharing the experience with a wider group of people – and for many people to get to see clips of themselves, once they were safely back at the Village.

Outdoor event and family day

The brief:

In August, Sports Bug Teignmouth were running a Family Day to celebrate the success of the three year project and wanted to make the event highly visual and interactive. They asked us to suggest an outdoor event sound and visual package to increase participation and audience engagement.

What we did:

Provided the staging and outdoor stage cover, roving camera and a presenter with live feed to the 5m LED screen showing activities going on all day such as dancing, music and interviews. With speakers and a sound system, we were able to broadcast the events and interviews around the venue. Our expertise in outdoor event sound systems meant that the audience involvement in seeing what was going on and hearing the interviews made a big difference to their appreciation of the event.

Events and festivals

The brief:

The organisers of three food festivals were setting up live cooking demo stages and wanted to make the demos more engaging and professional and encourage larger audiences.

What we did:

Set up lights and a camera directly above the demo area and a large LED screen behind the cookery stage. We equipped the chefs with head microphones and set up speakers so that everyone could hear the chef while watching exactly what was happening on the cooking stage.

Feedback:

‘Spot on! Thank again’ Sarah Milner Symonds, Festival Director

Lost Weekend arrives in Exeter – live streaming multi-player gaming

5th October 2017 by ripplerob

We are really excited to be working at the Lost Weekend in Exeter which is a three day festival of ideas, art, music, film and creative workshops on 6- 8 Oct. We will be based on Cathedral Green all day on Saturday with a series of events to support. There’s an amazing programme of activities across the city – something for everyone.

Events include Apple Store workshops, RAMM Digital Heritage, Radio Production Workshops – and the music events sound intriguing and inclusive. There’s the Lost Music festival with panels and advice as well as workshops. ‘Forever Me’ is a display of 200 shado boxes to illustrate the collective digital immortality of a community, while Choral Cuisine will see 50 diners collectively composing a symphony whilst sitting down to a delicious communal meal.

Our events:

9.30am – live screening of TedX talks

5pm – Massive Local Multi-Player Gaming organised by Tech Exeter – live streaming

During the day – Relaying Facebook Live videos being taken by volunteers at events all over Exeter. Relaying videos of some of the bands and music happening as part of the Lost Weekend.

We will be providing the LED screen and technical crew for the day – should be an amazing experience.
